Richard’s Story

My name is Richard and I volunteer with Eastern Volunteers as an interviewer. I had over 20 years of experience in the IT industry. Apart from being a volunteer with EV, I am also volunteering with U3A as a teaching assistant for the seniors. The range of topics covered includes Microsoft applications (excel, word)   YouTube, Facebook and setting up emails. This enables the seniors to continue to have a connection with the rest of the world, especially their close family members who might reside interstate or overseas. We have shared many funny moments including how to download music from YouTube, how to play games in Google and the best one…. “Look at my grandkids on Facebook!” It gives me great pleasure to share the mysteries of WWW (aka the internet).

Volunteering is very satisfying for me as I feel I do help to make a change in the community I am living in. I volunteer because I do want to give back what I had been given in the past and of course I now have the time. Interviewing is a great way for me to talk to people and interact.
